Welcome

Walking tour in Basilicata: the Park of the Rupestrian churches of Matera

Our walking tours are the ideal solution to discover, together with a licensed local guide, the amazing flora, fauna and history of Basilicata from an advantaged perspective.
This walking tour will let you walk along a ravine called "Gravina of Matera" in the "Park or the rupestrian churches of Matera", a rocky highland where you will explore some grottoes inhabited since the Paleolithic and transformed into rupestrian (rock-cut) churches in medieval times.
Through Neolithic villages, Bronze age graves, frescoed rock-cut churches and archaic rainwater catchment systems, this walking tour will let you discover the countless layers of history that make this beautiful area of Basilicata a very unique place.
In this Park, a Unesco World Heritage since 1993, we will also visit the spots where Mel Gibson has shot the "Crucifixion" in the movie "The passion of the Christ".
